The Revolution Will Be Photocopied

Calling Martin Luther’s 95 Theses the first such artifact (though calling into question the historicity of the popular account of nailing the theses to the door in Wittenberg), Quartz has an exploration of the history of zines. As they note, such an analysis could never be totally comprehensive, since so much of zine creation and distribution was and is an underground effort. The piece features some useful resources, including references to tools for zine creation.

Before online publishing was so easy, I used to distribute a hand-made cut and pasted zine called Martha Dumptruck, in which I wrote about some of the same subjects I continue to examine on my blog today (especially music).
